How’s Your Father is a collaboration between Dr Georgia Philip from The School of Social Work UEA, Simon Floyd, creative director at Floyd Performance and The Common Lot, Chris Dickerson and Travis Britton, the facilitators of ‘Dads’ Matter’ a service for fathers delivered by Norfolk County Council, and Andy Wood from MensCraft, a Norwich based charity supporting men and boys. This website is a professional development resource, using theatre and film to bring academic research findings to life.

meet Dan

Dan is 45 and about to be a father for the sixth time. People think he’s cocky, but they may not see what’s really going on. He’s had a lot of challenges in his life, but he’s in the last couple of years he’s made some big changes.

meet Will

Will is in his early 40’s, married with two children. He works full time and always wanted to be a great dad; but his expectations don’t meet the reality.

meet Steve

Steve is 35 and has two children. He wasn’t sure about having kids but finds he has to step up in ways he never expected.

meet Lee

Lee is 21 and grew up in care. He and his girlfriend Stacey are about to become parents for the first time.

The Show

‘How’s Your Father?’ is based on real stories from academic research and tells the stories of four men and their experiences and encounters with authority. Each story poses different questions on what it means to be a father, what challenges fathers can face and present, and why fatherhood matters for all of us.
